Power load distribution among existing generators to achieve maximum fuel efficiency

Abstract: As the power demand is increasing the question of fuel efficiency has become a key issue for power generation in oil and gas industries. Companies constantly look for opportunities to optimize plant operation and control the life cycle cost in order to reduce fuel consumption and carbon footprint. ADGAS approached the use of available in house resources to improve operational efficiency and enhance revenue of existing Gas turbine (GT-1, GT2, GT3, LG5 and LG6) generators and steam turbine (LG1&LG2) generators. ADGAS gas turbine generators are aerodynamically designed for optimal performance at base load level where steam generators are the most efficient at higher load level; therefore keeping these generators at their maximum operating capacity load is approached method. Monthly machines performance operation was examined. The proposed method of pushing higher efficient machine to their limit can provide fuel cost saving therefore avoid load shedding was developed. Models and solvers were generated that uses the performance curve developed using actual plant data and considering the operational constrains and power system stability, in order to determine the most efficient and cost effective operation of the machines at real time under specific condition and demand. The proposed fixed operating load range of higher efficient machines approach shows significant improvement in operational cost and estimated saving of fuel gas from 0.5% to 1%.
